The owner of the cottage is a Newport native and a descendent of master shipbuilder Levi Havard who up until 1846 built ships on the Nevern estuary and whom employed at the 1841 census, John Beynon, a shipwright who lived with his wife Margaret and eight children in the - then lime washed two bed cottage with barn, cow house and pig cot at Penfeidr Newydd. Latterly up to 1976, the home of John George Issacs, a well known local rabbit catcher, antique dealer and his donkey and trap (housed in the cowshed next door), this warm, dry dwelling whilst offering modern comforts, still retains an ancient charm having been imaginatively restored by its owner.
Only a ten minute, moss laden track and path walk down through Penrallt and College Square passed the Norman Castle, St. Mary’s Church and “Hughes the Bakers” into the charming village of Newport with its Spar grocers, “Paul the Butcher Shop”, Health food shop, a selection of fine gourmet restaurants, pubs with great food, the Newport Art Collective, Havard’s the Ironmongers, Carn ingli Crafts and Restoration, Gwalia Gifts shop, the Newport Garage and Equine and Boating store, Angel House newsagents, Post Office, Lloyds Bank, Library, Health Centre, Pharmacy and Tourist Information Centre. Walk the old “Burma Road” for a few minutes along the Nevern estuary to Parrog Beach and share the amenity of the Boat Club, a range of water sports, join the Coast Path along the quay wall or safely wade across the river at low tide to Newport Sands.

Breathtaking views over the Nevern Estuary, Morfa Head and Newport Bay from the spacious grounds where wildlife abounds. A rustic retreat reached by a rugged track - just open a gate on your doorstep and step onto the heather clad slopes leading up to nearby Carn Cwn with its Wishing / Holy Well (tiny hollowed - out cups of water replenished by a mysterious spring source - linked to the ebb and flow of the tide) and up the well trodden path through bluestone granite outcrops to Carn Ingli Common (peppered with stone circles, cairns and remnants of Iron age fortifications) then to the top to share the magnificent viewpoint from Carn Ingli itself.
